REWARD OFFER INCREASED IN TCF BANDIT CASE
Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that a reward of up to $15,000 is now being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual depicted in the attached bank surveillance photo, who is believed responsible for the robbery of eight (8) Chicago area banks dating to February of last year, including the same bank three times. In the most recent theft, which occurred on April 8th of this year, the TCF Bank branch located at 2128 North Mannheim Road in Westchester, Illinois was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. As he has in previous robberies, this individual entered the bank and approached a teller, slipping her a note announcing a robbery and demanding money from her drawer. He also claimed to be armed and threatened the teller with harm if his demands were not met. No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported in any of the robberies, which have targeted TCF Bank branches located in the western suburbs and the northwest side of Chicago. Other branches robbed include 10203 West Grand Avenue in Franklin Park on February 4th, July 18th and November 29th, in 2007; 6430 West Irving Park Road in Chicago on February 10, 2007; 4734 North Cumberland on December 20, 2007; 4411 North Cumberland in Norridge on February 5, 2008 and 507 East Woodlawn in LaGrange on March 13, 2008. Given that all of these thefts targeted TCF Bank branches, he has been dubbed the “TCF Bandit”. Witnesses have described the “TCF Bandit” as a white/male, 35 – 40 years of age, 5’6” – 5’10”’ tall with a large build. He has worn a baseball style cap or ski hat and sunglasses during each robbery. Anyone recognizing this individual or having information about any of these robberies is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700. EDITOR’S NOTE: Additional copies of the attached flyer is available from the Chicago FBI’s press office at (312) 829-1199. |
