FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 24, 2008 |
FBI JOINS HUNT FOR CHICAGO MURDER SUSPECT Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that the FBI was joining in the search for GREGORY HAYNES, Jr., who is wanted for the March 2008 shooting death of a Chicago man. On March 14th, HAYNES was charged in Cook County Circuit Court with first degree murder for the shooting death of Terrell Thomas, during a card game at a south side home. Investigation conducted by the Chicago Police Department (CPD) linked HAYNES to the crime, but attempts to locate and arrest him were unsuccessful. It was later determined that HAYNES had fled the state in an effort to avoid capture. On October 22nd, a warrant charging HAYNES with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, giving the FBI authority to institute a nationwide manhunt for HAYNES. In making this announcement, Mr. Grant is appealing to the public for help in locating HAYNES, whose whereabouts remain unknown. GREGORY HAYNES, Jr., is described as a black/male, 26 years of age, 5’11” tall, 180 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. He has numerous tattoos, including praying hands on his left chest and a long tattoo, not further described, on his left forearm. The search for HAYNES is being coordinated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), which is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the CPD and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police. HAYNES should be considered Armed and Dangerous. Anyone recognizing HAYNES or having any information as to his current whereabouts is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700. The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. EDITOR’S NOTE: Additional copies of the attached wanted flyer are available from the Chicago FBI’s Media Office at (312) 829-1199.
