REWARD OFFERED FOR CHICAGO GANG FUGITIVE

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that a reward of up to $10,000 was being offered for information leading to the location and arrest of JAMIE RIOS, age 25, whose last known address was 5121 South Trumbull in Chicago.

RIOS has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt coordinated by the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) since October of 2006, when he was charged in a federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP), which is a felony offense. RIOS is also wanted by local authorities on charges of violating state drug laws following an April 2006 arrest by the Chicago Police Department.

RIOS was released on bond following the drug arrest. While awaiting trial, RIOS is suspected of ramming a vehicle he was driving into another car which he mistakenly thought contained rival gang members. The second vehicle crashed into a tree near the intersection of 55th and Lawndale, killing two 16-year old girls.

JAMIE RIOS is described as a Hispanic/male, 25 years of age, 5'7" tall, thin build with black hair and brown eyes. He has a large surgical scar on his abdomen and goes by the nicknames of "J-Dog" and "Jimmy Rios". RIOS was wounded in a gang related shooting, several years ago, and is now paralyzed from the waist down. As a result, he is confined to a wheel chair. Investigators believe that RIOS is in possession of a modified van which allows him to drive. RIOS has a lengthy criminal record, including several weapons violations. As such, he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the Chicago Police Department and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Police.

Anyone recognizing RIOS or having any information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Additional copies of the wanted flyer and the criminal complaint filed in this case are available from the Chicago FBI's press office at (312) 829-1199.
