KENDALL COUNTY DRUG FUGITIVE ARRESTED

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today the arrest of ROGER A. NAVARRO, age 48, whose last known address was 14534 Lisbon Road in Newark, Illinois. NAVARRO was arrested late Friday evening, without incident, by officers of the La Marque, Texas Police Department, following a routine traffic stop.

NAVARRO had been the subject of an international manhunt, coordinated by the Chicago FBI, since June of 2004 when he was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) which is a felony offense.

NAVARRO was previously charged by local authorities in Kendall County in December of 2002 with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, both of which are felony offenses. These charges were the result of an investigation by the Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team (CPAT) unit, which targeted the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in and around Kendall County, and which culminated with a raid on NAVARRO’s residence.

The case was referred to the FBI when attempts to locate and apprehend NAVARRO locally were unsuccessful and it became apparent that he had fled the state.

NAVARRO is being held at the Galveston County Jail, awaiting extradition to Illinois.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Additional copies of the attached wanted flyer and a copy of the complaint filed in this case are available from the Chicago FBI’s press office at (312) 829-1199.
