TCF BANK robber soughtRobert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual depicted in the attached bank surveillance photo, who is believed responsible for the robbery of five Chicago area banks dating to February of last year, including the same bank three times. In the most recent theft, which occurred on December 20th, the TCF Bank branch located at 4734 North Cumberland in Chicago was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. As he has in previous robberies, this individual entered the bank and approached a teller, slipping her a note announcing a robbery and demanding money from her drawer. He also claimed to be armed and threatened the teller with harm if his demands were not met. No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported in any of the robberies, which targeted the TCF Bank branch, located at 10203 West Grand Avenue in Franklin Park on February 4th, July 18 th and November 29 th and the TCF Bank branch, located at 6430 West Irving Park Road in Chicago on February 10, 2007. Given that all of these thefts targeted TCF Bank branches, he has been dubbed the “TCF Bandit”. Witnesses have described the “TCF Bandit” as a white/male, 35 – 40 years of age, 5’6” – 5’10”’ tall with a large build. He has worn a baseball style cap and sunglasses during each robbery.
