PUBLIC'S HELP SOUGHT
IN SEARCH FOR ARMORED CAR ROBBERS
Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge
of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is
asking for the public's help in identifying the individual depicted in
the attached photograph, who is considered to be a person of interest
in the February 5th armed robbery of a Brinks Armored Car messenger.
The robbery occurred at approximately 5:30 PM as the courier was making
a scheduled pick-up from the Panos Food store, located at 817 West 21st
Street in Chicago. As the courier was returning to the armored car, she
was assaulted by two individuals wearing black clothing and ski masks.
Both men were armed with handguns, which they used to threaten the courier.
After taking the delivery pouch from her, they fled on foot through a
nearby gangway.
Within a minute of the robbery, the individual depicted in the attached
surveillance photograph was observed driving a black Cadillac automobile
southbound in an adjacent alley from the direction that the robbers had
just fled. He then took his automobile into a carwash, although it appeared
to be clean. He was seen removing a bag from the back seat of his car,
similar to the one taken in the theft, which he placed in the trunk of
his car.
It is possible that this individual either encountered the robbers as
they were fleeing through the gangway or was involved in the robbery.
He was dressed in black clothing, as were the robbers, and was wearing
a black watch cap. He is described as a black/male, 20-30 years of age,
5'6" - 5'8" tall, thin build. His vehicle is described as a black Cadillac
with Illinois license plates, number not observed. The vehicle has a black
vinyl top with a sunroof.
The robbers (2) are described only as black/males wearing black clothing
and ski masks.
These robberies are being investigated by the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes
Task Force (VCTF), which is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives
from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Investigators from the Cook
County Sheriff's Police (CCSP).
Anyone recognizing this individual or having any information about this
robbery is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the attached photos are available from the Chicago FBI Press Office, either by e-mail or courier, at (312) 829-1199.
