March 2, 2007 TWO CHARGED IN HOFFMAN ESTATES BANK ROBBERYRobert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Clint Herdegen, Chief of the Hoffman Estates, Illinois Police Department (HEPD) announced today the arrest of ALLEN L. HUDSON, age 40, of El Paso, Texas and ANDRA R. DAVIS, age 36, of Chicago. Both men were arrested on Tuesday afternoon by officers of the HEPD, following a high speed chase and vehicle crash, after responding to a robbery alarm at the Fifth Third Bank branch, located at 4653 West Higgins Road. HUDSON and DAVIS were both charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago on Wednesday with one count each of Bank Robbery, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, HUDSON entered the bank just before 2:00 PM on Tuesday, approached a teller and orally announced a robbery while displaying a handgun. He then threatened her with physical harm, if his demands for cash were not met. After receiving approximately $4,500.00, HUDSON fled the bank on foot, entering a waiting vehicle that was driven by DAVIS. Alert bank employees, realizing that a robbery had just occurred, watched as HUDSON entered the waiting vehicle, which then sped away. A description of HUDSON and the get-away vehicle was provided to the HEPD, along with details of the robbery. HEPD officers responding to the robbery alarm observed the vehicle driven by DAVIS and gave chase. While following the vehicle, officers observed a dark colored bag being thrown from the car. The bag was later recovered and was found to contain $4,400.00 in cash. After driving eastbound on Interstate 90 at a high rate of speed for several miles, DAVIS exited at Arlington Heights Road and continued his attempts to elude capture. HEPD officers were joined in the chase by officers from the Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village Police Departments. The chase came to an end when DAVIS crashed his vehicle into another car. Both DAVIS and HUDSON then attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended a short distance from the crash site. A handgun used during the robbery was also recovered. No injuries were reported in either the robbery or subsequent chase. DAVIS and HUDSON were later turned over to FBI Special Agents. Both men appeared in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Wednesday afternoon, at which time they were ordered held without bond pending their next scheduled court appearance. If convicted of the charges filed against them, both men face possible incarceration of up to 20 years. In announcing these arrests, Mr. Grant wishes to recognize the Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village Police Departments for their prompt and professional response to this robbery and for safely apprehending two armed and potentially dangerous individuals. The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the criminal complaint filed in this case is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 829- 1199. |
