PUBLIC'S HELP SOUGHT IN SEARCH FOR SOUTH SUBURBAN BANK ROBBER
Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in
identifying the individual depicted in the attached photographs, who is believed responsible for the robbery of as many as three (3) banks in the South suburbs, dating to September of last year.
The most recent theft occurred on May 31st at the Chase Bank branch, located at 3840 West 183rd Street in Hazel Crest, Illinois. According to witnesses, the robber entered the bank and approached a teller. He then handed the teller a note, announcing a robbery and ordering him to retrieve the drop bag.
The robber said that he was armed with a handgun and threatened the teller with harm if his demands were not met. The robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, method of escape not observed. No weapons were displayed and no injuries were reported.
This individual is also believed responsible for the robbery of the same Chase Bank branch, earlier in May, and the Chase Bank branch in Oak Forest in September of 2006. No injuries were reported in either theft.
The robber has been described by witnesses as a black/male, 35 - 45 years of age, 6' 2" tall, thin to medium build, with dark hair. He was wearing sun glasses, a light colored baseball type cap and an Atlanta Hawks warm up suit.
In appealing to the public for help, Mr. Grant noted that there have been 110 bank robberies reported in the five county metropolitan Chicago area thus far in 2007. This puts us on pace to equal or possibly exceed the record set in 2006, when 284 bank robberies were reported ."Citizen involvement has always been an essential element of effective law enforcement, which is even more important today, given our limited resources and increased responsibilities" said Grant.
A reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of this individual is being offered by Chase Bank. Anyone recognizing this individual or having any information about any of these robberies is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the attached wanted flyer are available from the Chicago FBI Press Office, either by e-mail or courier, at (312) 829-1199.
