PUBLIC'S HELP SOUGHT IN SEARCH FOR"TAKE OVER" BANK ROBBER
Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in
identifying the individual depicted in the attached photograph, who is believed to be responsible for the armed take-over robbery of a Chicago bank in April of this year.
The robbery in question occurred on April 11th at the Mid America Bank branch, located at 1314 South Halsted Street in Chicago. According to witnesses, the robber entered the bank brandishing a silver handgun and announcing a robbery. He then forced bank employees into a small room where the bank vault was located and ordered one of the employees to open the vault.
After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber then locked the employees in the vault room and fled the area. No injuries were reported during the robbery.
Witnesses described the robber as a black/male, 30 - 40 years of age, 5'6" - 5'8" tall, slim to medium build, with dark hair. He was wearing a navy blue ski mask, wind breaker and pants.
In appealing to the public for help, Mr. Grant noted that 2006 was once again a record year for bank robberies in the five county metropolitan
Chicago area, with 284 reported . This number surpassed the previous record of 240 that was set in 2005. "Citizen involvement has always been an essential element of effective law enforcement, which is even more important today, given our limited resources and increased responsibilities" said Grant.
This robbery is being investigated by the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), which is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Police (CCSP). Anyone recognizing this individual or having any information about this robbery is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
