February 26, 2007 PUBLIC'S HELP SOUGHT IN SEARCH FOR GANG FUGITIVE
Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in locating ALPHONSO STEWART, age 32, whose last known address was 5969 West Ohio Street in Chicago. STEWART has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since May of 2006 when he was charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, along with 55 other members and associates of the New Breeds Street Gang, with multiple violations of federal drug laws. The investigation leading to these charges, code named "Operation Impunity", targeted the gang's sale and distribution of illegal drugs in and around the area of 18th Street and Karlov in Chicago, known as "The Square". STEWART is described as a black/male, date of birth September 26, 1974, 6' 2" tall, 210 pounds, medium build, with black hair and brown eyes. He has been known to have a thin mustache and/or goatee. STEWART should be considered Armed and Dangerous. He is alleged to be a member of one of the city's largest and most violent street gangs that routinely used violence and threats of violence to maintain control of their drug distribution operation. Anyone recognizing the individual in the attached photo or having any information about STEWART is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700. EDITOR's NOTE: Additional copies of the attached wanted poster are available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 829-1199 or on-line at www.fbi.gov.
