$5,000 REWARD OFFERED IN SEARCH
FOR FORMER CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to the location and arrest of EDDIE C. HICKS, age 58, whose last known address was in Chicago.

HICKS has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since June of 2003, when he failed to appear for the start of his trial in U.S. District Court in Chicago. HICKS had been released on bond while awaiting trial, after he was arrested by the FBI in February of 2001, charged with racketeering, extortion and violation of federal drug laws. HICKS was among five men charged with participating in a scheme to rob drug dealers of their cash and/or drugs over a nearly 10 year period. The other four defendants in this investigation, code named operation "Good Buddy", have either been convicted or pled guilty to the charges filed against them.

HICKS is described as a black/male, 58 years of age, 5' 9" tall, 165  pounds, medium build, black/grey hair, brown eyes, with a slight mustache. HICKS  has used the aliases of Clarence Jenkins and wears eye glasses. He has been known to travel to Brazil in the past, but his current whereabouts are unknown.

HICKS should be considered Armed and Dangerous. He was a sworn officer with the Chicago Police Department for 30 years, who retired as a Sergeant in March of 2000. As such, he has extensive training and experience in the use of firearms and other law enforcement tactics.  Anyone with information about HICKS is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
