NINE GANG SUSPECTS CHARGED IN CARPENTERSVILLE SWEEP
Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); David Neumann, Chief of the Carpentersville, Illinois Police Department and Patrick B. Perez, Kane County Sheriff, announced that charges were filed today against nine suspected members and associates of the Latin Kings Street Gang. Six of those charged were arrested earlier today, without incident, by FBI Special Agents, Carpentersville Police Officers and members of North Central Narcotics Task Force (NCNTF). The nine suspects were charged in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with conspiracy to possess and distribute both marijuana and cocaine, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, those charged conspired to distribute the illicit narcotics from March of 2004 and continuing through August of 2006. The investigation that led to today's arrests included the use of a court authorized electronic surveillance of telephones utilized by one or more of the defendants in connection with this operation. The complaint further alleges that the individuals charged today distributed illicit drugs primarily in and around Carpentersville and Aurora on behalf of the Latin Kings. The Latin Kings are a large, violent and well organized street gang with nationwide affiliations. In the Chicago area, the Latin Kings are divided into numerous factions or chapters located both within the City of Chicago and in various communities in the surrounding metropolitan area. Those arrested and/or charged today are identified as follows: 1. JOSEPH GARCIA, aka "Evil", age 23, 2130 Tracey Lane, Algonquin, Illinois. 2. JONATHAN INMAN, aka "Johnny Boy", age 24, 6716 Derby Drive, Gurnee, Illinois. 3. FRANCISCO MORALES, aka "Junior", age 26, 855 Village Quarter, West Dundee, Illinois. 4. RICHARD OLVERA, aka "Twitch", age 27, 309 Amarillo Drive, Carpentersville, Illinois. 5. ANTONIO TORRES, SR, age 55, 103 Meadowdale Ct. Carpentersville, Illinois. 6. LISA URBINA, age 27, 1500 Pawnee, Carpentersville, Illinois. 7. GABRIEL MORALES, aka "Road Dog", age 25, 11 Evergreen, Carpentersville, Illinois. (incarcerated). 8. CHRISTINA CORBIN, age 21, 6 Aspen Lane, Carpentersville, Illinois. (incarcerated). 9. ALEX FAHEY, age 20, 8 California Street, Carpentersville, Illinois. (incarcerated). Those arrested are scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Chicago, later today, before U. S. Magistrate Judge Sidney Schenkier. If convicted of the charges filed against them, all nine defendants face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. In announcing these arrests, Mr Grant wishes to commend the Police Officers, Sheriff's Deputies and Assistant U.S. Attorneys assigned to the task force that conducted this investigation. "Their tireless efforts have helped to neutralize a vicious street gang whose activities terrorized a community. The charges announced today illustrate the effectiveness of combining federal resources with the expertise of local law enforcement." The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
