July 20, 2006 SUSPECT SOUGHT IN MURDER, CHILD ABDUCTION CASE Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in locating ALICIA LEONOR BANUELOS, who is suspected of murdering her newborn infant in 1997 and abducting her four year old daughter in 1999. BANUELOS was scheduled to begin trial in Cook County Circuit Court on October 12, 1999, for the murder, which is alleged to have occurred soon after BANUELOS gave birth at home. Family members living in the same household as BANUELOS claimed to be unaware of her pregnancy. BANUELOS has been the subject of an international manhunt since October 10, 1999 when she allegedly abducted her then four-year-old daughter Lyric Garcia, who had been placed in a guardian's custody pending the result of the murder trial. The abduction is alleged to have occurred when BANUELOS disappeared from a local shopping mall during a supervised monthly visitation with the then four-year-old child, and is believed to have fled the state of Illinois. In addition to having family and friends in the Chicago area, it is believed that BANUELOS has connections to El Paso, Texas and Zacatecas, Mexico. BANUELOS is described as a white (Hispanic) female, 5' 6", 138 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes and is approximately 38 years of age. BANUELOS has been known to use aliases of LEONOR BANUELOS, ALICIA BANUELOS, LEONOR ALICIA BANUELOS, ALICIA BANUELOS-FLORES, and ALICIA-LEONOR BANUELLOS. The murder and kidnaping cases were investigated by the Palatine Police Department. Anyone recognizing the female depicted in the attached photograph or having any information as to the current whereabouts of BANUELOS is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312)421-6700.
