Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that a reward of up to $5000.00 was being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual depicted in the attached photographs, who is believed responsible for the robbery of as many a five banks in the northwest suburban area, dating to November of last year. Dubbed the "Watch Cap Bandit", as he has worn a knit cap similar to those worn by sailors in each of his robberies, he has now struck at banks in four different northwest communities, with his most recent theft occurring on January 30, 2006, at the Charter National Bank and Trust, located at 1400 Irving Park Road in Hanover Park. Although he claimed to be armed and threatened the teller with harm if his demands were not met, no weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported. He then fled the bank on foot, with his last direction of travel and method of escape unseen. Witnesses have described the "Watch Cap Bandit" as a white/male, 30 - 40 years of age, 5'8" - 6' tall, heavy build, with varying types of facial hair. In addition to the watch cap, he has also worn a long black trench coat during each of the robberies. These robberies are being investigated jointly by the FBI, along with the Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Palatine and Schaumburg Police Departments.
