BURR RIDGE SEXUAL ASSAULT SUSPECT
ARRESTED IN ALBANIA

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Philip J. Cline, Superintendent of theChicago Police Department (CPD) and Thomas Dart, Cook County Sheriff announced today the arrest of BURIM BEZIRI, age 21, whose last known address was in Lyons, Illinois. BEZIRI was a fugitive who is suspected of participating in the December 2002 sexual assault of a then 15 year old teenager from Naperville.

BEZIRI surrendered to FBI agents in Tirana, Albania yesterday and arrived at Chicago International Airport this afternoon. BEZIRI was turned over to investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Office and is scheduled to appear in state court in Bridgeview tomorrow. BEZIRI has been the subject of an international manhunt coordinated by the Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task

Force (VCTF) after disappearing in September 2004 while out on bond awaiting trial on the sexual assault charge.

The Chicago FBI's VCTF is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the CPD and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
