August 25, 2006 HOFFMAN ESTATES MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED IN MEXICORobert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Clint Herdegen, Chief of the Hoffman Estates, Illinois Police Department (HEPD) announced today the arrest of HUGO LUIS ZARCO, age 32, whose last known address was in Hoffman Estates. ZARCO, who is a U.S. citizen, was located in Guanajuato, Mexico, following information developed by the HEPD. ZARCO was deported by Mexican Immigration authorities and was arrested by FBI Special Agents in Houston, Texas, upon his arrival there. ZARCO has been the subject of an international manhunt coordinated by the Chicago FBI since June of 1994, after he was charged in Cook County Circuit Court with the May 30, 1994 murder of fellow Hoffman Estates resident Michael A. Bruce. ZARCO is alleged to have stabbed Bruce to death following a dispute between the two individuals. ZARCO is being held at the Harris County, Texas jail, pending extradition to Chicago. The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. EDITOR's NOTE: Copies of the criminal complaint charging ZARCO with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution is available from the Chicago FBI Press Office at (312) 829-1199. Questions regarding the murder charges and investigation should be directed to the Hoffman Estates Police Department at (847) 882-1818. |
